Only black and white brings out the mood of this shot perfectly. I started with Picasa to adjust it, but moved to Photoshop to get the light and gamma curves the way I wanted as only photoshop can do.

Like all of Venice, the makeup of the architecture is hodge-podge with replacements ad-hoc of marble, stone, etc. Anything relatively close is used and left to age until everything is a kaleidoscope of texture and color.
